I am a creative nonfiction writer and speaker with the mission of creating a paradigm shift in society’s consciousness regarding physical punishment as an acceptable child rearing practice. My writing examines the life-long damage physical punishment does to our spirits. Every day in the United States five children die from abuse or neglect, usually at the hands of a parent or caretaker. As an emerging artist and survivor of such abuse, I speak for thousands who did not live and hundreds of thousands who lived, but are too damaged to tell.
I write so the world will know that the effects of physical child abuse don’t end when the beatings do. I write to be a light for others who have gone through similar trauma. I write to enlighten the love ones of abuse survivors and the professionals who work with them so they may understand the enormous challenge it is to heal from neglect, emotional and physical child abuse.
